Captain Lazy Jr.

Freddy Freeman was given a serious boost when after the death of his father by the aptly named Captain Nazi, Billy Batson shared his powers of Shazam with him to transform into Captain Marvel. Even though both boys were about the same age Freddy was still given the additional name of Junior. Freddy battled the Axis Powers overseas during WWII, which is quite a feat considering he has a permanently broken leg in his secret identity, but most of his adventures had calmed down by 1952 to the point where Captain Marvel Jr. skips his superhero duties to spend the day just chilling out. In this issue from 1952, Freddy was now living in a boarding house run by kindly old Mrs. Wagner, along with the token brilliant scientist who happened to hang out with young boys, Professor Edgewise. CMJ starts off in the morning flying to save an observatory from being destroyed by an earthquake then heads back home to take a nap in a hammock, even though he is supposed to be gifted with the stamina of Atlas so a rest wasn't really necessary in his Marvel form. All his housemates know Freddy's alter-ego, so handyman Red O'Reilly figured he didn't need to worry about falling off a ladder as Junior could just rescue him, even though Red does eventually topple to his near death with Junior doing nothing about it as he knew Red would land in some nearby shrubbery. Junior is so tired he turns down Mrs. Wagner's homemade blueberry pie and Edgewise's pepped up new vitamins, so his prank-pulling friend Leroy decides to risk a fire hazard by setting the hammock ablaze which only turns the comfy outdoor setting into ash. Later that night, Junior finally gets up and swoops into space to destroy an "invisible comet" that he earlier saw from the observatory. He didn't bother telling his friends anything of this until later because he didn't want to cause a panic, nor could he find the comet until it cast a shadow close enough to the Earth. So, instead of calling on help from the other members of the Marvel Family to help stop the comet early or just keeping quiet to his friends about it for the rest of the day, Junior decided to indulge in some pre-Silver Age superdickery by pretending to be a shiftless jerk hopped out on goofballs stuffing his smug face with blueberry pie. No wonder parent company Fawcett Publications eventually folded and sold their characters to DC!
