Frankenstein Kills The Prize Universe
Mary Shelley's creation of Frankenstein has been featured in several different comic book universes including DC and Marvel, but the more comedic version of the stitchpunk science project shown in Prize Comics was either getting into slapstick situations or being hunted down like The Fugitive. This version of Frankenstein was constantly being stalked by the self-important vigilante Denny Dugan whose professional name is Bulldog Denny. His beef with the monster is that Denny is relative of the original Dr. Frankenstein and wants to clean his family's ledger by terminating his distant foster cousin. As Bulldog, Denny wore a shirt with a cartoon dog face on it, making him look like the Punisher if he was more of a canine lover. He so far failed to capture Frankenstein, so in Issue #24 he decides to assemble the Prize Comics' good guy regulars to send an entire team of superheroes after the creature. This roster includes Doctor Frost, Green Lama, Black Owl, Yank, Doodle, and the comedic filler stars of The General and The Corporal. Imagine the Avengers with Abbott and Costello tagging along for a quick laugh. Referred to as "crime crushers", this jumbled Justice League managed to find Frankenstein's lair where Black Owl tries to take the monster down like as well as a mortal man in an owl costume could do, only to have The Corporal accidently shoot himself out of a cannon right at Frankie's head. Green Lama as the team's sorcerer supreme teleports Frankenstein to another world where he battles a bizarre creature that looks like the lower half of Captain Caveman with a cycloptic eye and groin mouth. The hairy abomination whips Frankie down with its bald tail when the monster realizes it was all an illusion as he is then pummeled by the patriotic pair of Yank and Doodle. Frankie recovers quickly and kicks the duo to the curb and tries to escape off a cliff into the ocean, but Doc Frost freezes the water causing the monster to fall into a huge mound of ice, knocking him out. The heroes think that together they are an invincible bunch of guys as Frankenstein lies unconscious. The monster is sent to prison for the next issue where he still functions even after all his stitches come undone with his severed appendages. He tries to find a way out while simultaneously fighting crime even as a living jigsaw puzzle. This was one of the only crossovers in the Prize Comics universe aside from the occasional team up of Black Owl with Yank and Doodle, even though it is particularly stupid to have Bulldog trying to stop the rampaging hulk on his own for over a dozen issues before finally dialing up the hero hotline for help.
