Super Nephew, Yellowjacket Jr.

Similar to Golden Girl, Yellowjacket Jr. is a spinoff superhero that never actually meets up with their source character. The very first comic book character to use the name Yellowjacket was not from Marvel but Frank Communale Comics which eventually became known as Charlton Comics. The founding Yellowjacket was a writer of crime fiction that somehow gains the power to control bees. This ability must have been hereditary because his nephew Tom has the same ability. Where Uncle Yellowjacket had a decent career in his own self-titled comic, Yellowjacket Jr. got only a single appearance in of all things the first issue of a funny animal anthology titled Zoo Funnies. Tom is called Buzz by his friends because of his weird expertise, but they also call him Yellowjacket Jr. having no knowledge of the secret identity of Buzz's uncle. Buzz can control bees with a special whistle like the Pied Piper, an act that his friends believe would come in handy for an upcoming war bonds talent show. Buzz's rival Scrappy Sneed plots with his cousin Martin Springer to capture the bees for Springer's circus act, even though it's not the bees that are special but is Yellowjacket Jr. with the real gift. At the talent show, Buzz gets his swarm to spell out "Buy War Bonds", notwithstanding that a crowd full of people in an indoor theater might be more than a little jumpy having an entire pack of stinging insects flying around. Scrappy later gets all the bees in a box from Buzz's backyard, giving them to Springer who makes a break for it on a train. Buzz makes it all the way to the station just as the train is leaving and uses his whistle to summon the bees from their box despite all the noise a train would make upon its departure. The bees sting Springy and Scrappy, and the next war bond show has Buzz making his bees spell out "Good Night" to the audience. Yellowjacket Sr. would in due time get picked up by other comics publishers like DC, nonetheless Yellowjacket Jr. at best received one appearance in a comic featuring furries. If Buzz had a tacky striped costume like his uncle, he might have gained more esteem among junior superheroes.
