The O.G. Captain Atom
Before the Nation-Wide or Charlton superheroes of the same name, Australia founded the first Captain Atom in 1948 by Atlas Publications, no relation to Atlas Comics which was eventually rebranded Marvel Comics. Written by Jack Bellew and drawn by Arthur Mather, this nuclear-powered superhero was literally born from the atomic bomb when it was first tested in the Bikini Atoll. Ripping off two already established comic book characters, Captain Marvel and Captain Triumph, Captain Atom is a fusion of two people sharing one body, similar to how Firestorm the Nuclear Man would be created years later by DC Comics. At an atoll nearby Bikini, an infant washes up on the shore and found by the caucasian Princess Lais who herself is wearing a pre-bikini ensemble before a real-life designer would turn it into a two-piece swimsuit. The child comes with a note saying that he survived the explosions from Bikini, and that there are supposed to be twins, even though it's only the one baby. The kid starts to age quickly and within a few months grows into a full adult physically and mentally, even though his is unfortunately given the name "Bikini" by Lais which retroactively would be thoroughly embarrassing for a boy. The natives of this atoll are for some reason run by a white man who informs Bikini that he is supposed to have a twin brother. The tribe is suddenly invaded by bad guys lead by a masked man who looks like he came out of an old time western who are looking for the mythical Secret of the Atoll, and Bikini is compelled to say the magic word Exenor which transforms him into the superpowered Captain Atom whose identity is really Bikini's missing twin who is invisible when he's not acting as this atom man. Now armed with the powers of super-strength, flight, heat blasts, and super-breath, Captain Atom discovers he's the last living descendent of an ancient civilization that wiped itself out when they discovered how to split the atom. From this point on, Bikini takes on the the last name Rador and somehow obtains a doctorate as he and Lais head for the mainland and becomes an FBI agent while he and his brother switch places into Captain Atom when fighting wacky villains like Wrecker, Cobra, and Weazel along with the occasional evil magician and giant robot bird. The Captain's fame went on for 64 issues over a period of six years, during which the character went on to have his own fan club made up of over 75,000 members which had its own swag in the form of a mystery ring that is supposed to glow blue in the dark, hopefully not painted with radium like the Ghost Rider mask as it might give kids cancer. Dr. Bikini Rador had an interesting run as an atomically created super-being that shared the same body with his twin brother when he wasn't acting as a part-time secret agent, aside from having a civilian name that in hindsight would've made him a laughingstock. The original Captain Atom might not have obtained the lineage of his Silver Age American counterpart, but his exploits as a superhero capable of nuking his enemies into oblivion made him memorable enough.
