Marga The Furry Woman

Most of the standard jungle girl characters were white woman who were raised in the jungle by either the natives or animals like wolves, but Marga the Panther Woman is a major exception to this rule as she was the result of a mad scientist's experiment. Marga was created by Emil Gershwin and was featured in Fox Features' Science Comics and Weird Comics. Set in what appears to be sometime in the future given the Futurama-like ships and buildings, the insane biologist Van Dorf escaped from an asylum and set up a laboratory in the African jungle to use the blood of panthers to create a race of super-people. Van Dorf had kidnapped a blonde nurse named Marga from the asylum and transfused some panther DNA into her which for some reason now made her a brunette all thanks to the Electrofusi Generator. Marga is not happy with her feline makeover, so she attacks him and leaves him to explode with his entire hideout. She soon realizes that she now has the nature of a panther with enhanced strength, speed, agility, and super-strong fingernails that act more like claws making her partially a furry but with the benefit of not having to shave her legs every day. Marga makes her way to the bizarrely named city of Succo which looks like it's right out of Buck Rogers where the airport has planes that appear to be rocket ships, and she gets hit on by a flirty pilot who she immediately decks to the ground. Another pilot named Ted Grant takes off to fight an enemy rocket/plane and is about to sneak onboard it while in mid-flight but finds out Marga stowed away to help him. The enemy soldiers get the drop on Ted, but Marga overtakes them to tear their throats out, and the two of them return to the sucky town of Succo and plan to be badass adventurers together. Somewhere along the line, Marga's gets time displaced from the future to more modern day as the planes eventually start looking less like rockets, plus the adventures become more jungle based as Marga single-handedly fights wild animals like lions, elephants, and polar bears. Marga was more woman than panther, but her enhanced skills helped set her apart from Sheena and the other jungle queens, although if she were to be redone for today's readers, she would probably have the obligatory fuzzy cat ears and tail.

Vernon Miller headed up Maple Leaf Publishing which was the first comics publisher in Canada which opened its doors during the Golden Age, the majority of which were called Canadian Whites because they were mostly all done in black and white to save money. One of Maple Leaf's titles started out being called Name-It Comics which they allowed the readers to vote on the ongoing name for that eventually became Rocket Comics. All I Need Is A Miracle Man

Mick Anglo was one of the earliest creators of British comic books, mostly known for making the character Marvelman which was later rebooted in the 80s by Alan Moore and Neil Gaiman. The idea behind Marvelman was after DC Comics had shut down Fawcett's production of Captain Marvel comics blaming it for being a copycat of Superman. That ceased European reprints that Miller's publishing company of L. Miller And Sons was doing, so they created their own version as a young blonde titled Marvelman. This included an entire superhero family with supporting heroes Young and Kid Marvelman making it available to a wide range of readers. Hitler Vs. The Walking Dead

Aside from its hit Vampirella magazine, Warren Publishing also had a few other horror anthologies. The creators of Famous Monsters Of Filmland had a comics publication titled Creepy hosted by the ghoulish Uncle Creepy, and there was a sister title called Eerie with the equally cryptic Cousin Eerie as its acting emcee. Russ Jones acted as the first editor after convincing publisher James Warren to come out with its first horror compilation in the spirit of Tales From The Crypt while avoiding the highbrowed Comics Code by printing the stories in black and white magazine format. One short but memorable story in Issue 35 got right to the point that many comic fans look for, zombies vs. Nazis! Army Of The Walking Dead came out over thirty years before Robert Kirkman's iconic urban horror comic and was drawn by former Captain America artist Syd Shores.
